ONE DAY ANGKOR WAT TRIP
Date : 10 - 03 - 2010 | 20:59:59

Today is Friday, exactly 12 th of February 2010. After back from Chambok eco-tourism, finally my friend and I arrived in Phnom Penh (Capital city of Cambodia). Last night, We took a night bus to get Siem Rieph (Second biggest city ). We planned to visit the Great Angkor temple in Cambodia. For ticket of Night bus, we bought it in travel agency which is spread out in the side road of Phnom Penh. Finally, we decided to take “ Paramount Angkor“ Bus. For night bus is 7$/person. It departed at 11.30 pm and noon bus is 4.5$/person departed from Siem Riep at 6.30 a.m. We took the cheap one but its quite comfortable (AC and for night bus with blanket). Thing that we must remember is they might be often come to you late. For our night bus, in fact we departed around at 1 am and for noon bus, we departed around at 7 am. When, we were in Phnom Penh, we were looking for some references of place to spend a night in Siem Rieph through internet. But, finally we followed our friends who already booked rooms in guest house. So, we also booked the guesthouse/hostel, its name is “Jasmine Lodge”. The price is 9$/room for two person (two beds, fan, inside bathroom with shower). This guesthouse also provide service to book bus ticket to go back to Phnom Penh or other city. So, if you need free pick up from the bus, just book the bus ticket here. Coz in our case, we already bought the ticket from Phnom Penh, so we didn’t get free pick up from the bus when we go back to Phnom Penh. Our travel to Siem Rieph took about 5-6 hours. So, around at 5.30 we arrived in Paramount Angkor bus Terminal. Before, when we’re booking the guesthouse we also asked to be picked up. So, when we got down from our bus, we could directly found a person with “Arwani” sign board. He’s a worker from our guesthouse. He took us directly to our guesthouse. We thought that we should pay for the tuk-tuk driver, but in fact, we don’t need to pay because its included of the guesthouse’s service. When we arrived in the guesthouse, we’re welcomed very well by a nice guy receptionist. He also offered us a free drink, having nice little chat, and we could get Angkor&Siem Reap map from him. We thought our friends already arrived first because they took more expensive bus, but they’re not in guesthouse yet. So, while waiting them and check in time, we ordered breakfast. We ordered sandwich/burger price 1.5$ (huge portion). Finally , our friends coming and we enjoyed our breakfast together. Our friends are from the Seminar activity before, all of them are from Europe (France and Greece). One of the supeority of this place is we can check in at 9 am. After having shower before and checked in, we’re quickly decided the transportation to get there. Finally, we took bicycle costs 2$/day. The name of the bicycle is Mr. White Bicycle. Its used for charity (for education of the children in Cambodia 1.5$ and maintenance of the bicycle 0.5$). Beside healthy&sustainable, we wanted to enjoy the beauty of Siem Rieph city. After around one hour, we arrived in Angkor’s ticket counter. It costs US $20/day/person. More day is cheaper. We are asked to give our face’s picture first before letting enter, So our ticket contains our picture. As soon as possible, we rode our bike and finally arrived In “Angkor Wat temple”. It’s the icon of Cambodia and the biggest temple in Angkor area, and its famous to enjoy the beautiful sunset. After we parked our bike, we quickly entered the temple and taking a lot of picture then. This temple is less renovated,so everything are still original till the stone’s colour is totally black . Angkor temple is surrounded by river. If we’re alredy in, we could reach the top of Angkor temple. Here, better to wear covered body clothes if you wanna go to the highest temple in Angkor Wat. They won’t let you come in if you only use “you can see” clothes or short pants. They also asked us to put it down our hat and head scarf. But, after some explanation, they let us come in. Afterwards, we moved to Bayon temple area. But before, we passed some small temple laid down between Angkor wat and Bayon temple. Here in Bayon, There are lots of temple spread out in square area. The most famous of Bayon temple is The face’s statue. So, we can call bayon temple as a hundred face temple. In four main gate of bayon, there are impressing gate’s enter with a teen of man’s statue pulling a rope. Its better you spend more time here, because there are lots of temple that you should see and enjoy here. And its better to bring/buy mineral water and snacks/foods outside because everything is expensive in Temple area, such as one big bottle(1.5 litre) water cost 1$. Next destination, we just followed our map. We went towards Ta Phrom. Its one famous temple here because it has its own speciality i-e Root temple. Here, the hundres years old trees cover the temple by its root. It looks Great and amazing. Its also used sometime for making film (local and international). The weather is also cool because of the giant tree. When we arrived at Banteay Idei, we had many chat with the ticket man. From that chat, we knew that if there is person said that he/she was Cambodian buth the truth was not, he/she will get penalty for 125$. Hm, scary,, Coz people from ASEAN Countries have similar face with Cambodian, so if we can speak a little bit about Khmer and imitate the dialec, we can do that hehe. In Angkor area, we could reach from one temple to another temple is about 1-3 kilometres. But, the trees along the steet will make the weather cool and shady. The distance to go around Angkor circuit is around 42 km. Finally, we could finish exploring all temples where many people say that its impossible to do it only in one day. We arrived in our gueshouest around 7 pm. Then, taking a shower and went up-stairs to have dinner. For dinner, it costs around 2$. Afterwards, we met our friend in night market in Siem Reap city, buying some souvenirs and enjoy the night by drinking durian juice in the side of road. Early morning, we had to get up because our bus departed at 6.30. Actually, for our guesthouse service we could get free- breakfast but because we’re too early checked out, we couldn’t get it.
